Briar Backup Communication Network
Overview:
The idea is too establish a way of communication in case we lose access to the internet or other emergencies
This will be achieved by using an app called Briar - The main idea behind Briar is to make a local Mesh network that can be used in cases with no access to the Internet
Briar uses Bluetooth and local WiFi networks as its way too transport messages to the recipient
It looks for other Briar users using Bluetooth and local WiFi connections - It then spreads your message to all the other Briar users which then can help you transport your message to the recipient
This means that the more Briar users there is in your area the quicker and more reliable the network gets as it uses the users to move messages around
Does that mean anyone in the chain can view my messages?:
No your messages will be encrypted using an asymmetric key-pair (This is the same principle as with Crypto wallets)
When you add a contact to your Briar app you exchange your public keys
When you wanna send a message to B your use his Public key to encrypt the message and now the message can only be decrypted using B's private key meaning that as long as B does not share his Private key then he is the only one that is gonna be able to read the message you send
Ideas for expanding the network:
- Setup workshops to help people get started with Briar
- Setup stationary Briar clients in common places such as common bars restaurants etc.
- Setup point to point antennas between a few places in PV and Bucerias in order to be able to spread ones messages to multiple places in the city rapidly when you go to one of the point
